Here is a great three-minute interview with The River executive producers Michael Green and Zack Estrin after their panel at Comic-Con.

Eloise Mumford, Joe Anderson and Leslie Hope represented the stars of The River at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con. Check out this interview with Mumford, as she talks about what scares her and how the documentary-style footage is very liberating.

The River made a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con 2011. We learned more about the show and its cast, which we will share with you in several Comic-Con posts. First and most interesting to me were the thoughts from executive producer Oren Peli and writers Zack Estrin and Michael Green.

They say that The River will be scary because it’s believable, not because of how gross and disgusting it is:

“Our goal isn’t to shock the audience with gore and blood and torture porn,” Peli emphasized. “We want to scare people with scary stories. And the network, ABC, they said to get as scary as we can.” Added Green, “It feels like we’ve reclaimed horror from people who want to make it as disgusting as possible. We don’t want to show you crazy extremes of gore – we want to make it real.”

That quote was sourced from io9.com, where we also learned that the entire first season has been plotted, as they fully expect the show to get picked up for more than the 7 episodes (we have heard eight) that ABC ordered. Oren Peli says they have thought many seasons ahead, too. They better hold off on that until our forums heat up. Also from i09.com:

One of the big themes of the show is going to revolve around local legends about magic in the Amazon. The writers and actors have been reading a lot about these myths. Said Estri, “Legends about the Amazon are all designed to keep white people out. To repell people. But they’re also about how the Amazon will accept or repel you based on whether you’ll be a good or bad influence on it.” Laughing, Peli added that many horror stories abou the Amaon are about “the white people who ignore the warnings and are foolish enough to go there.”

As we told you before, Oren Peli‘s Paranormal Activity 3 is coming in October 2011 and we have the first teaser trailer! Peli is executive producer of The River, too.

Eloise Mumford is one of the most exciting cast members of The River, and she was actually the first actor signed to the show. We can’t wait to get to know her and her character Lena Landry. We have 17 pictures of Eloise in a gallery for you.

Eloise Mumford’s character Lena Landry is officially described as “sexy and resourceful.” We know that she is the daughter of Russ, who is lost with Emmet. She is a “fearless” helicopter pilot and she has been friends with Emmet’s son Lincoln for a long time – they grew up together on the set of Emmet’s show. In the pilot, she is very upset with Lincoln because he didn’t tell her about the rescue mission to find Emmet and Russ. Lena has aerial pictures of the missing ship, The Magus, which helps lead the rescue mission to the forbidden Boiúna fork of the Amazon.

Before being cast in The River, Eloise Mumford was known for her role as Lindsay Holloway in Fox’s Lone Star. She also had roles in the TV series Crash, Law & Order: SVU, Mercy, and she starred alongside Jesse Eisenberg in Some Body Don’t Leave. We’re confident that she will be a household name when The River goes big.

The readers have spoken, and Lost is the best Thrill TV show ever. Firefly fans put up a great fight – on the blog, Facebook and Twitter, but they were no match for the Losties on Twitter and Google+.

Christian Bale is back as Batman, but we also get to see Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, the return of Liam Neeson as Ra’s al Ghul, plus the usual roles from Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine.

Doug Hutchison and Courtney Stodden are back in the news, and it looks a reality show is on the way. To date, our most popular story at The River Fans is Horace from Lost marries a 16-year-old, which told the creepy story of 51-year-old Hutchison marrying a 16-year-old wannabe pop singer. We also followed up that story by publishing a copy of Courtney Stodden’s birth certificate, proving that she is actually 16 (many people thought she was lying for publicity). The happy couple sat down for an interview on Good Morning America, and we have the video.

This story should probably go away soon, but our interest is two-fold. One, it’s weird and creepy. But two, our fans are big Lost fans, so we often keep an eye on what the cast has been up to. While Evangeline Lilly is busy making movies, Doug Hutchison is out chasing teenagers. Of course, Hutchison played a despicable character, Horace, on Lost and we played arguably the worst character in the movie The Green Mile.

Lara Spencer of GMA scored the interview and we learn that the couple met online when Stodden signed up for Hutchison’s acting workshop, and he says he had no idea at first she was just a teenager. When he found out, his “world turned upside down.” They dated four months online and fell in love without ever meeting in person. We also learned that Stodden’s mother was monitoring the online conversations and she suggested that they could get married if they wanted. Supposedly everything was G-rated, as there were no illegal sexual conversations, no physical contact, and parental consent.

And despite looking 40, Courtney Stodden is just a teenager who is “very mature for her age” and an “old soul.” The worst part? People are calling about casting the couple in a reality show….
