Just saw Super 8. Great movie.

11 Jun

I just went to see Super 8 and it was a great movie. You can see JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg in this – action, mystery, and a mountain of emotion. Steven Spielberg movies always do so well with kids. However, if you are looking for Bruce Greenwood in this film, good luck! You certainly won’t recognize him.

Our local theater had the volume all the way up to 11, which made the action sequences batshit crazy. Check out Super 8 this weekend.

I’m going to Super 8 today. Bruce Greenwood, Steven Spielberg & JJ Abrams!

Steven Spielberg & JJ Abrams team up

There is nothing better than a good matinée. I can’t wait to see Bruce Greenwood as Cooper. He recently said about the role, “It’s not your typical acting exercise at all, because you’re really the only person in this room with all these cameras in it.”

I’ll have a review for you later. Meanwhile, buy your tickets for Super 8 soon!

Bruce Greenwood, Steve Spiellberg, and JJ Abrams team up for Super 8, which is in theaters now. Greenwood stars as Emmet Cole in The River. Spielberg is the executive producer of both The River and Super 8. JJ Abrams, from Lost, directs Super 8.

Will it last? Or, Are you sure this won’t be cancelled?

We all hope that our time is not wasted. And so when we pour ourselves into a promising show, we hope that it’s not going to be cancelled due to the whims of the big networks.

I believe that The River is different. ABC has cancelled enough good shows like V, FlashForward, and Invasion and they are ready for something with a future. Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks are behind this show, along with some great writers from Paranormal Activity. Add in the acting props of Bruce Greenwood, Luisana Lopilato, and Leslie Cole, and you have something very special.

Still, networks have done stupider things (how could Fox cancel Arrested Development!?), and I don’t like that this is a midseason show. January / February is not traditionally the best time to launch a show.

I’m starting to see a large group of fans for The River even before the first promo has aired on television. This COULD be the next Lost. Let’s hope it has its own legs. Stay tuned!

The River may fit best in the horror genre

Eloise Mumford and Joe Anderson in "The River"

Awesome analysis by Kevin Melrose at Spinoff Online:

It looks like The River won’t just deliver drama or slightly offbeat adventure in its desperate search for a missing wildlife expert/television personality, but honest-to-goodness, edge-of-your-seat horror. That’s a rare thing on network television. Of course, that probably shouldn’t come as a surprise, given some of the names behind the series — in particular, Steven Spielberg and Oren Peli of Paranormal Activity fame.

If the two minute-plus trailer is a good indication, The River could be a gloriously twisted cross between The Crocodile HunterStanley and LivingstoneHeart of Darkness and, I don’t know, Survivor. Oh, please let that turn out to be an accurate assessment …
